Physical, Emotional and Spiritual Cleansing

If there is a snake or a rat that sneaks into your house, and you just found out about it, what would you do? You would get rid of the snake or a rat in no time. You will remove it immediately. If the wind blows some pieces of trash into your home, you would close the door to stop the trash from coming in again and sweep it clean as soon as you can.

What about the physical possessions like war games, fictitious, romantic novels, adult videos, internet pornographic materials, or anything inside your home that pose a spiritual threat to you and your family? What about the unseen things to the physical eyes like self-serving ideas, arrogant, ungrateful attitudes of a harden heart that you have allowed to grow in your heart and mind over some period of time? Don’t you want to get rid of them as soon as you come to realize the danger of harboring them?

To experience peace and the presence of the Lord, it is necessary to clean your house spiritually. Is your home physically clean, tidy and presentable? Is your emotional home filled with love, peace, joy and laughter? Is your emotional and mental home stable, strong and well-maintained with fruit of the Holy Spirit ready to be picked and served?

Did you remember ever willfully or ignorantly to invite these material things, emotional and mental possessions, and rebellious behaviors into your home which defile the atmosphere and give the devil the right to affect your lives and the lives of your children?

Defilement could come in many shapes and forms: statues of foreign gods, magic charms, souvenirs of past sins, altars, idols, and hidden sins. Definitely, you don’t want to invite the devil to wreak havoc in your lives and your hearts (I Corinthians 10:20). The children of God will not have fellowship with demons and evil spirits and with the world. Just as light has no fellowship with darkness.

Superstition is so subtle. It is placing faith in any person, place or thing other than the Almighty God and His infallible Word. You must free yourself and your household from any spiritual bondage. In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus taught his disciples to ask God to deliver us from evil. Christ’s cross and resurrection have established our authority over the devil (Matt. 10:1; Luke 19:10; Eph. 6:10).

Is there anything in your home that hinders your fellowship with God? Is there anything in your heart and mind blocking God’s blessings from coming to you? Are you keeping yourself free from defilement? It means not giving Satan any place or allowing any opportunity to snatch you (Eph. 4:27; I Peter 5:8).

Is the atmosphere of your homes cleansed? What about the condition of your heart right now? Is it attentive and obedient to God’s Word, or is it harden toward God and the things of God?

You and I must learn how to walk obediently and blamelessly before God and to exercise spiritual discernment as the Spirit leads you and me (I Corinthians 2:15; Eph. 5:15).

Today, more than ever, to be effective and fruitful, God is calling us to a new level of holiness and Godliness. We must keep our hearts pure. We must keep our homes clean from all defilements. Let’s glorify God through our lives, our attitudes of the heart, our words and deeds. Examine yourselves.

Have you been involved or trapped in a world of darkness? Have you seen a witch doctor? Is the atmosphere in your house felt electric with evil? Do you have a bookcase filled with religious, heathen, ungodly and occult books? Are you or your family members harassed in the night by nightmares and ungodly dreams? Are there ghosts, demons or harassing spirits seen in the room at night or during the day? Are there flies bitten marks, human-like bite marks and claw scratches? Satan, the lord of the flies is capable of doing evil things to scare people. (Matt. 12:24-32; Mark 3:22).

Did you ever give authority or permission to the enemy to operate in your home? Is there an open invitation that attracted demonic spirits and gave them legal right to defile your home and to harass you and to oppress your family? Such items, artifacts may seem harmless, yet hold significance to satanic spirits. The power of idol, unhealthy attachment to the occult materials, the symbols of contracts the person had made with the enemy, sexual promiscuity...are open doors to spiritual attacks (Galatians 5:19-21; Romans 1:18-32).

God will give you the spiritual impressions, the word of knowledge, or the common sense to know, to notice something wrong, not right as you cleansed the atmosphere with prayer. He loves you so much. He will point out things to you which you must get rid of. If your house is not cleansed, life defeat is imminent. Joshua and the Israelite army were defeated at the city of Ai. God could not intervene because defilement is still hidden somewhere in your life. He cannot save or deliver you before your sin is keeping His hand from blessing you.

Let’s pray. Ask God. Diligently seek Him. Spend time listening to God. Discern His will. Heed His Word. Fast as you must. God will show you the reasons of your defeat. Find out what the reasons are for the spiritual failure. Learn the lessons. Get up. Get going with God again.
